In September 2025, military exercises are taking place in both Lithuania and Poland. These exercises, named Iron Defender-25 and Quadriga 2025, involve troops from multiple NATO partner countries.

In Lithuania, the exercises aim to rehearse the defense of the Baltic region in a conflict scenario. The program includes training in the deployment of forces and resources by land, sea, and air into Lithuania. Over 8000 troops are involved in these exercises, along with over 1000 units of military equipment from the German Bundeswehr. Upon arrival at the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda, the equipment was transported from the German city of Rostock across the Baltic Sea by six vessels of two cargo ships. The participants then headed to Pabrade and other military bases in Lithuania.

Meanwhile, in Poland, Iron Defender-25 sees over 30,000 troops from Poland and allied countries participating. Over 1800 transport vehicles are part of these exercises. The news about these events is reported by DW.

These exercises in Lithuania partially overlap with the Russian-Belarusian Zapad-2025 exercises, scheduled from September 12 to 16 on Belarusian territory. According to Lithuanian military intelligence, around 30,000 military personnel from Belarus and Russia will participate in West-2025 exercises, of which Zapad-2025 is a part. The participants of Zapad-2025 include soldiers from Russia and Belarus; about 13,000 troops are stated to be in Belarus and around 30,000 more are on Russian soil involved in the exercises. Over 30 aircraft and helicopters are involved in these exercises, along with a vast array of equipment including armored vehicles, tank transporters, medical trucks, and other gear.

These large-scale military exercises underscore the commitment of NATO and its partner countries to maintaining peace and security in the region.
