German-Polish border customs operations conclude effectively

On August 22, 2025, a joint patrol of German and Polish customs officers conducted inspections in the Polish border area, specifically in the town of Bogatynia. The incident involved the discovery of over 300,000 cigarettes, with over 90% being counterfeit.

The Polish man known to the customs service was identified as the regular supplier of these counterfeit cigarettes to markets near the border. The tax evasion amounts to approximately 370,000 Zloty.

Customs officers from Görlitz have been conducting joint patrols with their Polish colleagues along the border for over 10 years, alternating on both sides of the Neisse.

Heike Wilsdorf, the press spokesperson for the Dresden Main Customs Office, confirmed the incident. She can be contacted at 0351/4644-1044 or by email at [email protected]. The official website of the Dresden Main Customs Office is www.zoll.de.

The investigation into this incident is being conducted by the Polish customs. The location of the garage from which the cigarettes were loaded has not been specified.

This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred. Counterfeit goods, particularly tobacco products, are a significant concern for customs services worldwide. The fight against such activities is ongoing, and cooperation between border agencies is crucial in this endeavour.
