Glen Scotia Distillery, one of the few remaining distilleries in the town of Campbeltown, has announced the launch of a new 12-year-old single malt whisky. This new addition joins a lineup of whiskies that includes 10, 15, 18, and 25 Year Old expressions.
The 12-year-old single malt whisky captures the maritime influence and fruity richness that define Glen Scotia's house style. The nose offers a delightful blend of sea air, honeyed vanilla, and exotic tropical fruits. The palate presents caramelised sugar, tangy citrus, vibrant pineapple, and toasted oak, while the finish is long and warming with a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg spice that lingers pleasantly.
The new identity of Glen Scotia's whisky range reflects both its deep-rooted heritage and its resilient, small-town craftsmanship. Each expression in the Glen Scotia range showcases a different facet of the distillery's style, from briny maritime notes to rich, tropical sweetness.
The Glen Scotia 12 Year Old has an ABV of 46%, natural color, and is not chill-filtered. It is matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks, which contributes to its unique flavour profile. The bottle design is inspired by Glen Scotia's iconic dunnage warehouse door and exterior walls.
Iain McAlister, who is both the Master Distiller and Distillery Manager at Glen Scotia Distillery, oversees the production of this new 12-year-old single malt whisky. Under his leadership, the distillery has played a central role in Campbeltown's recent revival, helping the town regain its status as a whisky hub.
During its Victorian heyday, Campbeltown had dozens of distilleries. The town of Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute was once the whisky capital of the world.
