Goalkeeper of Hamburg's premier team persists in pursuit of his initial score
MOPO, the popular Hamburg newspaper, is set to feature a variety of topics in its upcoming issue. Among these are discussions on Angela Merkel's historic "We can do it" and the recent Veddel inferno, but today, our focus is on the local football scene.
The Hamburg footballer of the year award ceremony is scheduled for September 19 at the HFV annual reception. One of the contenders for this prestigious title is Michel Netzbandt, a local hero in Wilhelmsburg and a striker who has made a name for himself in the Oberliga.
Netzbandt, currently playing for Forward-Wacker Billstedt, has turned down one or two interested parties due to coaching styles that do not suit him. As of the mentioned date, his first goal for Forward-Wacker Billstedt is pending, and he remains goalless in his current team.
Netzbandt's next game is against Niendorf this Sunday at 3 PM on Öjendorfer Weg. This match is a significant opportunity for him to improve his chances of becoming Hamburg's footballer of the year, as he aims to score his first Oberliga goal for his new team.
Netzbandt's coach, Umit Taytanli, describes him as unselfish, with no ego or star allure. This quality, combined with his ability to function best with friends and freedom in a team setting, has made him a valuable asset to Forward-Wacker Billstedt.
Interestingly, Michel Netzbandt and midfielder Luis Hacker made the switch from Türkiye to "VW" together. Netzbandt, who previously scored prolifically for FC Türkiye, has managed to provide three goal assists in the Oberliga for Forward-Wacker Billstedt.
Other candidates for the award include Pascal El-Nemr and Veli Sulejmani from Altona, Ersin Zehir from Norderstedter, and Haron Sabah from FC St. Pauli U23.
As the Oberliga season commences, discussions about who can become champion and who will fight for the class are heating up. Regardless of the outcome, Michel Netzbandt remains optimistic about scoring a goal at any age, including at 40.
The next game for Michel Netzbandt is against Niendorf on Sunday at 3 pm on Öjendorfer Weg. Let's see if he can secure his first Oberliga goal and move a step closer to becoming Hamburg's footballer of the year.
