Government body requests Department of Public Works and Highways to submit report concerning the damage in Malabog road

The 21st Davao City Council has summoned the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to provide explanations regarding the poor state of a road in Malabog, Paquibato District, and the upcoming one-month closure of the Agdao Bridge Flyover along J.P. Cabaguio Avenue.

Councilor Sweet Advincula, along with Councilor Ralph Abella, has expressed concern over the road's condition, with Abella describing it as almost half-damaged, leaving only a narrow, curved portion that resembles the letter "C." Abella also noted that farmers have expressed their worries about the road's state during his recent visit.

In a bid to address the issue, Advincula has insisted that the DPWH, the CTTMO, and other concerned agencies present a traffic management plan at the next council session on September 9. Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus, meanwhile, has recommended summoning the district engineer from the Third Engineering District and including the Second District office for the discussion.

The DPWH was invited to disclose the contractor's name, project cost, and clarify if the road issue is part of the contract, as requested by Mahipus. The repair of the Agdao Bridge Flyover, scheduled from September 5 to October 5, 2025, is not expected to affect the previously discussed road in Malabog.

Abella has warned that if the damage worsens, four-wheeled vehicles may no longer be able to pass, leaving only motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles to use the road. He also noted that a house near the damaged portion could be at risk if repairs are not made soon. However, no new information about the risk to this house was provided.

The Third Engineering District, recently created, is responsible for the Agdao Bridge Flyover repairs, with Engr. John Michael James Baltazar as the responsible engineer. The next council session is scheduled for September 9, where the DPWH, CTTMO, and other concerned agencies are expected to present their traffic management plans for both the Agdao Bridge Flyover repairs and the poor road condition in Malabog.
