Gravel Racing Victories: Nicole Frain and Mads Wuertz Schmidt Secure Individual Triumphs at Houffa Gravel Event (UCI Gravel World Series)
In the latest UCI Gravel World Series event, the "3Rides Gravel Race" in Aachen, Germany on May 31st, 2025, Mads Wuertz Schmidt (PAS Racing) secured a decisive victory in the men's elite category.
The Houffa Gravel course, with its 70% off-road terrain, presented a challenging 47km lap with a total elevation of 700 meters. The steepest climb of the day, Rue du Saint Roch, came quickly after the start, setting the pace for the race.
A group of six, including Mads Wuertz Schmidt and Loman Mathijs (SWATT Club), made the first selection early in the race. As the race progressed, Mads Wuertz Schmidt broke away from the pack, going solo after a technical and bumpy section. He maintained his lead throughout the race, crossing the finish line with a winning time of 4:21:45.
Loman Mathijs finished the men's race in second place, three minutes and seven seconds behind Schmidt. Kevin Panhuyzen claimed third place, finishing with a time of 5:25:12.
In the women's elite category, Nicole Frain (Ridley) dominated the race, winning with a decisive 10-minute lead. Frain's winning time was 5:07:28 on a 141km course. Wendy Oosterwoud (PAS Racing) finished third in the women's race, while Esmée Peperkamp (Picnic-PostNL) took second place with a time of 5:17:40. Floor van Elsacker finished the women's race in fourth place.
Mads Wuertz Schmidt expressed his love for racing in The Ardennes in Belgium in his Instagram post, sharing his joy over his second UCI Gravel World Series win. The victory at Houffa Gravel follows his win at the Traka 200 and the fourth UCI Gravel World Series round of the season in the men's elite category.
