Greens advocate for CDU to assume power in Saxony-Anhalt state

The state of Saxony-Anhalt is currently embroiled in a dispute over the approval of a new State Broadcasting Treaty, with the black-red-green government coalition delaying discussions in the media committee of the state parliament until next week.

The Greens, both in Saxony-Anhalt and at the federal level, are actively seeking a resolution to this issue. Michael Kellner, the Federal Political Business Manager of the Greens, has called on the federal CDU to issue a clear statement regarding the existential dispute of the Kenya coalition over higher broadcasting fees.

Kellner urges the federal CDU to support democratic forces, not the AfD, in this dispute. The CDU at the federal level opposes an increase in broadcasting fees and supports reform instead. However, the CDU parliamentary group in Saxony-Anhalt welcomed the decision by state leaders not to raise the broadcasting contribution and considers maintaining the current fee as the right approach.

The Greens believe it is worth every effort to make the State Broadcasting Treaty come into force. They are not alone in this stance, as all other 15 federal states are behind the State Broadcasting Treaty. The media committee of the state parliament in Saxony-Anhalt is still involved in the deliberations of the dispute.

The dispute between the Kenya coalition and the federal CDU is specifically regarding an increase in fees for public broadcasting and approval of the new State Broadcasting Treaty. The Greens continue to support the implementation of the State Broadcasting Treaty, hoping for a swift resolution to the ongoing dispute.
