Guidelines for Successfully Cramming a Thanksgiving Turkey
Celebrate this Thanksgiving with family-approved recipes and expert tips to ensure a safe and delicious meal.
From the thickest part of the breast, cook your turkey to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for a safe and properly cooked bird. However, for even cooking and to avoid foodborne illness, some sources recommend cooking the stuffing separately.
To help you prepare, we have compiled a list of family-tested and approved stuffing/dressing recipes:

Procrastination is not advisable when checking the internal temperature of the turkey. Instead, ensure you monitor it closely to avoid overcooking or undercooking.
Stuffing the turkey should be done immediately before cooking, and it is recommended to prepare the stuffing on the day of Thanksgiving to prevent bacteria formation.
For a perfectly roasted turkey, set your oven temperature to 325°F. Once cooked, let the turkey and stuffing rest on the counter for about 20 minutes before carving. The center of the stuffing should also reach 165°F before the turkey is considered cooked.
To prevent uneven cooking and potential foodborne illnesses, avoid overstuffing the turkey. A good rule of thumb is to use approximately 1/2 - 3/4 cup of stuffing per pound of turkey.
Leftovers should be used within 4 days. Within 2 hours after cooking the turkey and dressing, refrigerate them in shallow, air-tight containers. Stuffing should not be prepared the night before.
