Guitar virtuoso Philip Sayce boasts some of the most impactful tones in contemporary blues rock, a fact now reflected by Seymour Duncan's creation of a signature single-coil set modeled after his preferred vintage Stratocaster setup.
In an exciting development for guitar enthusiasts, Seymour Duncan has collaborated with blues-rock guitarist Philip Sayce on a signature set of Stratocaster pickups. The Seymour Duncan Philip Sayce "Mother" Stratocaster Pickup Set is a trio of single-coils inspired by an electric guitar that has been by Sayce's side throughout his career.
The guitar in question is a 1963 Fender Strat, but its original pickups were replaced with 1958 pickups, which gave the guitar a new voice. This change ended up being a blessing in disguise for Sayce, as the '58 pickups resulted in a clear, full-bodied sound that has been the hallmark of Philip's guitar tone ever since.
The team at the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop has put the set under its tone-exploring microscope to recreate them at an affordable price. Each of the first 500 sets sold are specially aged to match the heavy relic of Sayce's originals. The Alnico 5 magnets used in the pickups are carefully wound to match the feel and responsiveness of Philip Sayce's original guitar.
Philip Sayce has been very particular about his tone choices for the pickup set, aiming for all three single-coils to be perfect. The set promises to deliver the same singing, punchy Strat sound of Sayce's right-hand six-string, with bell-like cleans that can easily morph into sizzle with a little overdrive or fuzz.
The limited-edition packaging of the sets includes Philip's signature on the flatwork. A certificate of authenticity, signed by Sayce and Seymour W. Duncan, is included with each set. The Philip Sayce Stratocaster Pickup Set is priced at $375.

Philip Sayce's innovative, pentatonic-based style includes daredevil over-bends, trem-picking with fingers, and ice-cold lead playing inspired by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert Collins. His unique tone, now available through this new pickup set, is sure to excite guitarists around the world.
