Gun Purchaser in NYC Acquired Rifle and Vehicle from Casino Administrator in Las Vegas
In a tragic turn of events, authorities have identified Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old resident of Las Vegas, as the gunman responsible for a shooting at 345 Park Ave., home to the NFL's headquarters in New York City.
Tamura, who took his own life after the shooting, used a high-powered rifle, sometimes described as an M4 rifle, in the attack. However, it is important to note that the sources do not directly connect him to buying the weapon from a casino supervisor, and no information has been disclosed about the legality or background check status of any firearm purchase.
Prior to the shooting, Tamura had a history of legal firearm ownership. On June 12, he legally purchased a revolver in a separate transaction in Nevada. He also had a permit to carry the revolver concealed, but not the rifle.
Investigators found a note in Tamura's wallet accusing the NFL of concealing risks of brain injuries associated with contact sports. The note also suggested that Tamura was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). During a search of Tamura's Las Vegas apartment, investigators discovered anti-psychotic, anti-epileptic, and anti-inflammatory medications, a suicide note addressed to his mother, 100 revolver rounds, and a single rifle round.
Interestingly, the supervisor who sold the revolver to Tamura is cooperating with authorities but has not been charged. Furthermore, it has been reported that the same supervisor also sold Tamura a BMW, which he used in the New York City attack.
It is worth noting that in Nevada, adults over the age of 18 can purchase a firearm without a permit, but all sales must include a background check. However, authorities have not confirmed whether a background check was conducted prior to the private sale of the rifle.
Three people were shot and killed in the lobby of the building, and another person was shot and killed on the 33rd floor. The shooting incident has sent shockwaves through the city and the sports community, and investigations are ongoing to understand the motives behind this tragic event.
