Gunmen from Palestine carry out a shooting at a Jerusalem bus stop, resulting in six fatalities.
On Monday (Sep 8), a tragic terrorist attack unfolded at a bus stop on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The attack, which was captured on a dashboard camera at the scene, resulted in the death of six people and left more than 20 others injured.
The attackers, identified as two Palestinian gunmen, carried out the shooting at Ramot Junction. Among the victims were a 50-year-old man, a woman in her fifties, and three men in their thirties. Five of the victims were identified, while the sixth was from the Israeli-occupied West Bank. A Spanish citizen was also among those killed in the attack.
Ester Lugasi, a victim of the attack, recalled the harrowing experience, saying she thought she was going to die during the attack. She felt like she was running for an eternity before she was injured.
In the aftermath of the attack, the Israeli military ordered a full closure of the area from which the gunmen came. The Israeli army also ordered the sealing of the village of Husan and closed all roads leading to the Ramot Junction area.
The attack took place amid nearly two years of war in Gaza, where Israel's campaign against militant group Hamas has left the territory in devastation. In the West Bank, Palestinians have faced tightened military restrictions and a surge in attacks by Jewish settlers.
France, the EU, and the United Arab Emirates issued statements of condemnation for the attack. The attackers were shot dead at the scene by a soldier and an armed civilian.
As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of life and prays for the speedy recovery of the injured. This senseless act of violence serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing conflict and the need for peace and understanding.
