In the early hours of this morning, a fire broke out in a 1,000 m² production hall located on Gahlenfeldstraße, Herdecke. The incident occurred at 2:17 AM and was reported to the local fire department.
The fire was caused by a laser machine for plastics, and the company operating the plastic processing in the affected building is Jung Plastic GmbH. Employees attempted to control the fire using several fire extinguishers before the fire department arrived.
The fire department quickly responded, dispatching two fire trucks and five rescue vehicles to the scene. They used a CO2 extinguisher and a C-pipe with respiratory protection to fight the flames. A high-performance fan was also used for ventilation to make the hall accessible again.
Four employees suffered minor injuries during the incident and were taken to the hospital. Ten people were treated for smoke inhalation. The fire watch continued until 4 PM, with a fire truck on site to monitor the area.
