Halting the social network's operation lies ahead
In a bid to maintain the integrity of the "Kamchatka Fish" program, the Ministry of Fisheries of Kamchatka Krai has appealed to local law enforcement agencies to prevent violations within the initiative. The program, designed to provide affordable fish products to socially vulnerable categories of citizens, has recently encountered issues with the excessive purchase of fish by individuals.
Residents of the region have voiced concerns about the rapid disappearance of social fish from store shelves. The current deliveries are limited to three types of seasonal fish: pollock, flounder, and herring, which are regularly supplied to stores in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Yelizovo, and Vilyuchinsk.
The ministry is working diligently to develop mechanisms that prevent the use of social fish for commercial purposes. As part of this effort, they plan to tighten control over sales and potentially implement additional accounting and restriction measures.
Recent investigations have revealed that four individuals bought more than 80 kg of fish, with one individual purchasing over 100 kg. These purchases, made at a social price, significantly exceed the established norms for resale. The ministry is currently investigating the circumstances and motivations behind such purchases.
If violations are confirmed, appropriate measures will be taken, including imposing penalties. The ministry is also emphasizing efforts to ensure the program operates honestly and effectively, and any attempts to abuse preferential conditions will be prevented.
In response to these findings, the ministry is strengthening its cooperation with law enforcement agencies. The ministry's plans for the future include increasing the volume of deliveries of salmon species by at least two times within the program in 2025. Additionally, negotiations are ongoing to potentially include squid in the social program assortment.
To date, more than 6,000 social cards have been issued, allowing the purchase of up to 5 kg of each type of fish at a discounted price. The "Kamchatka Fish" program aims to support regional residents by providing them with affordable fish products, and the ministry is committed to ensuring its continued success.
At this time, there is no evidence that authorities outside Kamchatka Krai, such as those in Germany or at the EU level, are cooperating with the Ministry of Fisheries of Kamchatka Krai to develop mechanisms preventing the commercial use of so-called "social fish." The ministry's focus remains on addressing these issues within its own jurisdiction.
