Hamas asserts that rumors about the demise of their spokesman are forms of psychological warfare

In a statement issued on Saturday, Hamas' internal security apparatus has warned Gaza's residents about rumours circulating in Israeli media regarding the alleged assassination of Abu Obaida, the official spokesperson of Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades.

The rumours, according to Hamas, are nothing more than a tactic employed by Israeli military intelligence to boost morale within Israel and serve their objectives. Hamas believes these rumours originated in Israel, and they accuse the Israeli media of only publishing information under the direction of security bodies.

The warning comes after Israeli officials reported last Friday that Abu Obaida was killed during a targeted operation by the IDF and the Shin Bet in the Gaza Strip. However, Hamas has not officially confirmed his death, labelling the reports as psychological warfare.

Hamas claims that in the past, Israel has used the spread of rumours about the killing of senior Hamas officials to provoke them into actions, thereby collecting up-to-date intelligence for targeted assassinations. The organisation asserts that Israeli media are controlled and supervised by the military and intelligence services.

Despite the ongoing rumours, Abu Obaida remains active and continues to deliver statements on behalf of the Al-Qassam Brigades, providing no indication of any change in his status. The residents of Gaza are urged to disregard the rumours and remain vigilant in the face of potential psychological warfare tactics.
