Hamas is prepared to discuss the American ceasefire proposal promptly
The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has reached an impasse, with the Israeli government and Hamas unable to reach an agreement due to disagreements over the control of Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas.
According to the Israeli government, Gaza must be controlled by its army, and Hamas must be disarmed. However, Hamas seeks a deal based on an agreement drawn up by mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, and the US, on August 18. This agreement has not been responded to by Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
The August agreement proposed the release of all hostages held by Hamas in exchange for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip. Hamas is ready to negotiate such a deal, but they continue to insist on the implementation of the August agreement.
In a recent development, the US presented a proposal for a ceasefire to Hamas on Sunday. The proposal, which was sent through an Israeli peace activist, includes the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the enclave, the release of all hostages, and the end of the war in Gaza.
The US special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, sent a similar proposal to Hamas last week. The US President, Donald Trump, has also issued a final warning to Hamas to accept the deal for the release of hostages.
In a new turn of events, Egypt, Qatar, and the US are preparing a new proposal that will be presented this week. This proposal is expected to include the release of all hostages, the end of the war in Gaza, and the formation of a government in the Strip to administer the Palestinian enclave post-war.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has responded to the mediator-proposed agreement to end the Gaza conflict by conditioning his approval on the release of all Israeli hostages. Israel is ready for quick negotiations, but insists on the release of all hostages and the disarmament of Hamas before agreeing to a ceasefire.
The situation in Gaza remains tense, with both sides hopeful for a peaceful resolution but unwilling to compromise on their key demands. The international community continues to urge both parties to return to the negotiating table and find a solution that ensures the safety and security of all people in the region.
