Hamas receives final caution from Israel after Donald Trump's tenure
In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, tensions have escalated significantly in recent days. The Israeli Defense Minister, Katz, issued a stark warning to Hamas, stating that Gaza would be destroyed and its members annihilated if they fail to comply. This warning follows a series of intensified operations by the Israeli army in and around Gaza, a stronghold of Hamas in the Palestinian territory.
Hamas, however, has shown a willingness to negotiate. They have proposed to release all hostages in exchange for a ceasefire, complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the formation of an independent Palestinian committee to manage the territory. This step could potentially facilitate a broader regional settlement and ensure the release of all hostages, allowing soldiers and reservists to return home.
The Israeli army has accused Hamas, which denies it, of using certain buildings for operations. The army has also called on the population of Gaza City to evacuate to the declared "humanitarian zone" of al-Mawassi. Evacuees in al-Mawassi have reported a lack of essential supplies.
The Israeli reprisals have resulted in at least 64,368 deaths in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to recent reports. On the Israeli side, the October 7 attack resulted in the death of 1,219 people, mostly civilians.
The situation has caught the attention of global figures, with former US President Donald Trump proposing a global agreement on hostage releases and a ceasefire with Hamas last week. Trump wrote on Truth Social that Israel has accepted his conditions and urged Hamas to do the same. The White House has not provided details on Trump's conditions, but a new proposal for a global agreement on hostages and a ceasefire was communicated to Hamas last week.
Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, claims that around 100,000 people have already left the area. However, according to recent UN estimates, nearly a million people live in and around the city of Gaza. The conflict has led to the bombing of several residential towers in the city, with a new residential tower being bombed on Sunday, the third in three days.
The Forum of Hostage Families in Israel considers the personal guarantee of the US President a historic step without precedent. The Israeli army has not officially announced the start of the large-scale offensive against the city of Gaza approved in August. The call for a ceasefire and surrender continues as the situation in Gaza remains uncertain.
