Havoc at Monterey's Prestigious Event: Supercars Defaced, Transforming Night into a Criminal Spectacle

In the heart of Monterey Car Week, a time when supercar owners might be particularly concerned about the threat of vandalism, a shocking incident occurred. Two McLarens were found vandalized, their windshields smashed, near the Pine Inn around midnight on Friday.

The suspect in this case is 30-year-old Samuel P. Shaffer of Pacific Grove, an art collector and enthusiast known for his unconventional performance art. Carmel Police arrested Shaffer for the vandalism, a move that Acting Chief Trayer hopes will serve as a wake-up call for the suspect.

The cleanup after the vandalism was painstaking, as shards were scattered throughout the interior of the cars. Steve Rohrer, one of the McLaren owners, was woken up by police around 1 a.m. to inform him about the damage. Rohrer expressed concern about potential damage to the dash and paint of the cars, which could be expensive to repair.

The specific details of the Lamborghini Miura's future were not discussed in the article, but it's clear that the incident will leave a permanent record for Shaffer. Rohrer, however, expressed hope that the arrest would serve as a wake-up call for Shaffer.

The arrest was made in connection with the vandalism that occurred during Monterey Car Week. Officers directed over 65,000 vehicles daily and answered 911 calls during the event. In addition to Shaffer's arrest, Carmel Police made seven arrests related to vandalism, reckless driving, DUI, and possession of an illegal firearm during Monterey Car Week.

The FLOCK camera system, tips from witnesses, and cooperation with Pacific Grove and Monterey police contributed to the tracking down of the suspect. The incident serves as a reminder for all participants in future events to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
