Heating district expansion: Auguststrasse to transform into a unidirectional road, with detours expected by early October

Solingen, known for its renowned knives, is set to undergo an important infrastructure project. The city is expanding and reinforcing its district heating network, a move aimed at ensuring long-term safe and efficient heat supply.

The construction work, commencing on Augustastraße starting September 1, will cause some disruptions to traffic flow in the area. For the convenience of road users, here's what you need to know:

  • Augustastraße will be accessible only in the direction of Weyersberger Straße during construction. No traffic will be allowed to exit Augustastraße onto Blumenstraße during the construction period. Exit from Blumenstraße onto Augustastraße will not be possible due to the closure at Vorspel park.
  • Those coming from the opposite direction must use the signposted detour via Weyersberger Straße, Kronprinzenstraße, and Konrad-Adenauer-Straße. The detour route from Augustastraße to Blumenstraße is via the same route.
  • Pedestrian access along Blumenstraße at the Vorspel park will remain closed. Pedestrians should use the opposite side of the street.
  • Due to the one-way traffic, adjacent streets may become more crowded. Residents are advised, if possible, to use alternative parking spaces.

The pipeline between Blumenstraße and Oligschlägerweg will be reinforced and its capacity increased. The construction work may cause some inconvenience, but the city administration asks for patience and understanding.

In addition, the expansion of the Solingen district heating network is planned to be coordinated through a newly established coordination office. This office will act as a central interface between the city, municipal utilities, external investors, and housing industry. The organizational responsibilities for heat supply and networks might be consolidated within the municipal utilities, but this is still under review.

The construction work on the southern network of Solingen district heating is expected to be completed by autumn. Residents are advised to plan their journeys accordingly during the construction period.

We encourage everyone to stay informed and follow the traffic regulations to ensure a smooth transition during this period of improvement.
