Heavy Rain Warnings in Andhra Pradesh Last Until September 12th as Per IMD

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Forecast for Andhra Pradesh and Yanam

Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are bracing for another round of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather warning was issued for the period from September 8 to September 12, 2025.

The Bay of Bengal is expected to develop another low-pressure system around September 13, which could bring increased rainfall to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In the meantime, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) can expect similar conditions on September 10. Isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam can expect heavy rainfall on September 9 and 10.

The IMD predicts light to moderate rain or thundershowers at multiple locations across Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema over the next seven days. Strong winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph are expected at isolated places across NCAP, SCAP, and Rayalaseema throughout the forecast period.

Garividi in Vizianagaram recorded 9 cm of rainfall between Monday and Tuesday morning, marking the highest in the state. Thunderstorm activity will be most intense between September 9 and 13, with meteorologists warning of "pressure cooker blast" style thunderstorms.

The monsoon remains normal over Coastal Andhra Pradesh but weak over the Rayalaseema region. The IMD has also issued a warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds affecting various districts.

District collectors in Andhra Pradesh have taken proactive steps to ensure public safety amid the weather warnings. North Coastal districts, including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram, Manyam, and Alluri Sitharama Raju, are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms.

Authorities have deployed NDRF and SDRF teams with boats and emergency equipment, maintaining readiness for potential flood situations. Sea conditions are rough with squally winds reaching 40-50 kmph along the Andhra Pradesh coast, prompting advisories for fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea.

In response to the weather warnings, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has alerted district administrations and conducted teleconferences with collectors to monitor the situation. Special attention is being given to Eluru reservoir management, with officials instructed to balance inflow and outflow effectively.

As a precautionary measure, educational institutions have been closed in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts on September 9. The IMD continues to closely monitor the weather conditions and will provide updates as necessary.
