2024: A Breakthrough Year for Spielbank Bad Homburg with a record-setting €58 million gross gaming revenue, soaring past previous records, according to Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing a press release from Deutsche Presseagentur. This surge in revenue is attributed to the casino's wide variety of offerings and versatile clientele.

The Vibrant Casino Scene:Spanning all age groups, the clientele includes those enjoying their first casino visit and seasoned professionals. Even young individuals often dress up, eagerly embracing the casino experience. In an average weekday, around 650 visitors flock to the casino, with weekends often reaching capacity. Approximately 230 employees manage this influx.

A Melding of Tradition and Technology:Slot machine areas coexist harmoniously with classic games like roulette and blackjack in the historic Brunnensälchen. Despite the casino's focus on modern technologies, it values preserving the iconic gambling experience.

A New Lease on Life for the Kurhaus:A major deal is in the works: The Spielbank intends to become the primary lessee and finance the renovation of the dilapidated Kurhaus. Conventionally, public funds would be employed for this project; however, the city plans on utilizing the pacht income of the François-Blanc-Spielbank GmbH almost entirely instead.

The controversial concept involves demolishing the 1980s Kurhaus, which is deemed outdated, and building a new one to provide the casino with more space and room for around 50 additional slot machines. This expansion may yield an increase in annual revenues by approximately €13 million. As early as the 19th century, the Spielbank played a crucial role in financing the then Kurhaus, and this cycle may repeat with the casino's move back into a modern Kurhaus.

The Persistence of Classic Gaming in Wiesbaden:According to Andreas Krautwald, CEO of Spielbank Wiesbaden, maintaining classic gaming is strategic. Even though slot machines dominate the market, gaining nearly 90% of revenue, both Spielbank Wiesbaden and Spielbank Bad Homburg prioritize the classic gaming experience.

Preserving traditional casino areas in the city lauded as "Nizza of the North" while blending it with cutting-edge technology enables the casino to thrive in a dynamic gaming market. Despite economics favoring slot machines, classic gaming remains relevant and prestigious.

A Necessary Pillar of Bad Homburg's Identity:For Kurdirector Holger Reuter, the Spielbank Bad Homburg, established in 1841 by François Blanc, is crucial to the city's image and economic development. According to Reuter, "Bad Homburg wouldn't be what it is without its Spielbank."

Although the Spielbank excels, it remains conscientious of problem gambling, providing information brochures about uncontrollable gambling tendencies at the entrance and offering preventive services for at-risk guests. The personal touch fostered within the establishment enables employees to recognize and assist at-risk players.

Online Gaming: A Riskier Proposition:CEO Lutz Schenkel emphasizes that while online gaming offers anonymity, it makes early intervention more arduous. Conversely, the in-person setting at the casino enables employees to recognize at-risk players in a timely manner.

Interestingly, croupiers receive internal training, receiving a feel for the guests by playing themselves. This unique training approach fosters a stronger bond between employees and guests.

A Time of Change for Wiesbaden:While Bad Homburg's license remains valid until 2037, the situation in Wiesbaden is precarious: the license will expire at year's end. The city administration revealed that the re-tendering process has already begun, targeting a summer 2025 completion to ensure a smooth handover.

The gambling powerhouse Novomatic has emerged as a potential successor to the current majority shareholder Jahr + Achterfeld Gesellschaft. Alternatively, the city is contemplating operating the casino itself, but significant challenges, such as high initial capital investments and a lack of expertise, loom.
