High-end car owner in the West End has reported a theft of $11,000 worth of jewelry and cash following a series of break-ins.
Break-ins at Luxury Apartment Building in Alexandria's West End Under Investigation
The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is currently investigating multiple break-ins at a luxury apartment building in the 4900 block of Seminary Road, located in Alexandria's West End. The incidents, which occurred in two vehicles parked in the garage, have left one victim with over $11,000 in jewels and cash stolen.
The series of incidents began on June 23, when the owner of a 2019 black Mercedes-Benz C-300 reported a break-in. The car was found to be missing gasoline and contained several items that didn't belong to the owner, including a pocket knife and residual tobacco products.
On July 6, the same owner reported the unauthorized use of the vehicle after returning from a three-day vacation. The victim also received alerts from his financial institution about unauthorized use of his debit card.
On July 12, the victim reported another break-in of the Mercedes-Benz, and on the same day, the victim discovered his wallet missing from the vehicle. However, no items were taken during the incident on July 19 when an individual entered the car.
The second vehicle affected by the break-ins was a 2017 blue Land Rover Discovery. The details of the incidents were released on Monday in a search warrant affidavit. The victim who was repeatedly affected by these burglaries has chosen to remain anonymous.
The APD is urging anyone with information on these incidents to contact the non-emergency number at 703-746-4444. Callers can remain anonymous if they wish. The recovery of video surveillance footage from the parking garage is also part of the ongoing investigation.
The APD encourages residents to take precautions to secure their vehicles and personal belongings to prevent similar incidents from occurring. This includes locking vehicles, parking in well-lit areas, and not leaving valuable items in plain sight.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available. The APD is committed to finding those responsible for these break-ins and bringing them to justice.
