High-speed pursuits by two motorists counter to the norm observed in Plärn, close to Erbendorf.
In the Upper Palatinate region of Germany, the Traffic Police have been actively enforcing speed limits during September, with a series of checks conducted in various cities and districts.
The campaign, which took place in Tirschenreuth, Neustadt/WN, Weiden city districts, and others, resulted in a significant number of offenses being reported. A total of 451 offenses were recorded, with 902 warnings issued to drivers for various traffic violations.
The speed checks were particularly notable in Weiden itself on September 11, 2025, and on the B85 near Kümmersbruck, where multiple speed violations were recorded. One driver from the Neustadt/WN district was caught speeding at an alarming 92 km/h, where only 50 km/h is permitted. Another speeding offender, a Czech driver, was caught going 83 km/h.
The campaign also highlighted the importance of road safety, with 11 driving bans issued as a result of the speed checks. Both speeders now face fines of up to 500 euros and a one-month driving ban.
Unfortunately, the month was not without incident. Near Sulzbach-Rosenberg, a 58-year-old Tesla driver was involved in an accident during a turnaround maneuver, causing property damage. In Schwandorf, a 41-year-old man was stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol. The police also stopped a 23-year-old driver under the influence of drugs, with THC and cocaine detected in the drug test.
The police in Amberg had to intervene when a group of children went for a walk to a fast-food restaurant at 5 am. As a precaution, a report was made to the youth welfare office.
The "speeders of the month" were caught in the village of Plärn near Erbendorf. Elsewhere, two suspects robbed the cash register of a hotel in Bad Neualbenreuth and fled to the Czech Republic. They were later arrested.
Overall, around 80,000 vehicles were checked during these speed checks, with 1,353 drivers' behavior criticized for various traffic violations. The Traffic Police continue to emphasize the importance of adhering to speed limits and driving responsibly to ensure everyone's safety on the roads.
