The Staatsanzeiger Award, a prestigious event recognising innovative and impactful municipal projects, recently celebrated its winners. This year, a record 139 projects from all over Germany competed for the coveted prize.
The grand prize, the "Mayor's Mission" award, was presented to Mayor Matthias Beer (CSU) from Bavaria. Beer, who co-hosts the popular podcast "Lark and Bear" with his colleague Sebastian Koch (SPD), shared updates about his job on his TikTok channel.
One of the winning projects was the community project Schloss Blumenfeld in Tengen (Konstanz district), which won the "Culture and Tourism" award. The long-vacant castle has been revitalised by engaged citizens, sponsors, and the city, and now hosts workshops, concerts, and exhibitions, attracting people of all ages.
The city of Reutlingen triumphed in the category of citizen participation with its campaign "Reutlingen can't you like - you can only love". Initially causing controversy, the campaign went viral, making Reutlingen a sympathetic city throughout Germany.
The city of Offenburg's democracy project won the award in the "City for All" category. Offenburg also offers city tours for migrants to learn about democratic development in Germany.
In the category "Digitalisierung und Innovation", the Municipium Mutlangen won the first prize. It was recognised for pioneering the digital process of electronic residence registration (eWA) in Baden-Württemberg, which includes a complete online service for address changes and updates linked with official documents like ID cards and passports. The Mutlangen Youth Council also received an award in the category "Youth and Democracy".
The 8er Council in Wertheim and the campaign for the European elections of the Akademie Jugendpolitik in Schwäbisch Gmünd were among the finalists. Schorndorf integrates artificial intelligence (AI) into its administration, with new employees receiving AI training instead of MS Office training.
The award ceremony honoured six outstanding municipal projects that strengthen society and democracy locally. The jury for the award consisted of representatives from municipal associations, initiatives, and ministries. The event was dedicated to innovative municipal projects that offer real solutions to challenges and pave the way into the future. The Minister of Finance of the state presented the awards.
