The sixth edition of the Make in Vietnam Awards, an initiative by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), has been announced. These prestigious awards honour high-performing digital technology products developed in Vietnam that address local challenges and reach international markets.

First launched in 2020, the Make in Vietnam Awards have been a significant part of Vietnam's digital transformation journey. The awards aim to recognize outstanding digital technology solutions developed in the country, fostering the growth of domestic digital enterprises as per Directive No. 01/CT-TTg on fostering the growth of domestic digital enterprises.

The 2025 Make in Vietnam Awards feature eight categories, seven of which remain from last year. The new eighth category recognizes strategic digital technology products, including AI, digital twins, augmented reality, cloud computing, quantum technology, big data, blockchain, next-generation mobile networks (5G/6G), robotics and automation, and semiconductor chips.

Eligible applicants for the remaining categories are enterprises established under Vietnamese law, as well as units and organizations with digital technology products researched, designed, manufactured, and applied in Vietnam. The category for potential digital technology products is exclusive to micro and small enterprises or innovative startups established under Vietnamese law.

For foreign-invested firms, Vietnamese citizens must hold at least 51% of total shares in the category for potential digital technology products. The category for outstanding digital technology products for foreign markets is open to domestic enterprises where Vietnamese people hold controlling shares and to overseas enterprises in which Vietnamese citizens own at least 51% of shares.

The application period for the 2025 Make in Vietnam Awards is from September 4 to October 22. The award ceremony is scheduled for December 2025. Last year, digital platforms and products developed by FPT Group (AkaBot and FPT.AI) won the 2020 Make in Vietnam Digital Award.

Looking ahead, the Make in Vietnam Digital Technology Products Awards are set to expand, introducing new categories to cover every economic sector and outstanding new technologies like AI, big data, the Internet of Things, and semiconductors in the 2024 edition.

Although Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Information and Communications, was not explicitly mentioned as involved in the event launching the 2025 Make in Vietnam Awards, he has been actively involved in events related to science, technology, and digital transformation.

The Make in Vietnam program is a crucial part of Vietnam's digital transformation journey, with ambitious targets set for its digital orientation. The awards serve as a testament to the country's growing prowess in the digital technology sector.
