Historic drama 'Nuremberg' enthralls Toronto audience with powerful performances by Russell Crowe and Rami Malek
In the world of film, the character of Hermann Goering, the infamous German Nazi leader, is a fascinating one, especially for actor Russell Crowe. Crowe takes on this complex role in the upcoming historical drama 'Nuremberg', directed by James Vanderbilt.
The film, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, is based on Jack El-Hai's 2013 non-fiction book "The Nazi and the Psychiatrist." Vanderbilt's extensive research on the topic is evident in the film, as noted by David Maxwell Fyfe, portrayed by Richard E. Grant.
'Nuremberg' chronicles the war crimes trials of 22 major Nazi figures after World War Two. Russell Crowe's character, Goering, believes he can talk his way out of the trials at the end of the war. On the other side, Rami Malek portrays U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley, who plays a crucial role in the trials.
The film's cast also includes Michael Shannon, John Slattery, and Leo Woodall. During the production, Crowe discussed the different stages of Goering's life and ambitions leading into the Nuremberg trials.
Director James Vanderbilt stated that there haven't been many post-World War Two movies, making 'Nuremberg' a significant addition to the historical drama genre. The movie is set to be released in theaters in November.
This gripping drama promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of one of the most significant events in modern history, shedding light on the complex characters and events that shaped the post-war world.
