Historical Performance Venue's Audio System Powered by Compact and Covering Mixing Solution

In the heart of Minneapolis, overlooking Loring Park, The Assembly Theatre at The Woman's Club has undergone a significant transformation in its sound system. The theatre, which first opened its doors in February 1928 and has since hosted a diverse range of speakers and performers, including Helen Keller, Frank Lloyd Wright, Garrison Keillor, Henry Rollins, Amanda Palmer, The Jayhawks, and others, now boasts a state-of-the-art DiGiCo S31 console.

The DiGiCo S31, recommended by audio professionals and dealers Wiklander & Associates and Windy Shores Sound, was chosen for its flexibility, user-friendliness, sound quality, and price point. With 24 local inputs, a full 10x8 matrix processor, three touch screens, and 31 faders, the console offers a comprehensive solution for managing sound.

Rip Nordhougen, the technical director for The Woman's Club, has been working towards revitalizing the theatre for vaudeville use. His efforts have paid off, as the DiGiCo S31 has proven to be an excellent choice. Kevin Winge, the executive director, expresses complete confidence in bringing any level of performer into the venue with the new console.

The DiGiCo S31 has already demonstrated its capabilities in handling technically demanding productions. The English Beat, a show with approximately 24 inputs, was successfully hosted by The Assembly Theatre with the S31. The quality and clarity of the sound have improved significantly, a fact appreciated by both the audio techs and the audience.

The DiGiCo S31's flexibility allows for switching between running monitors from the FOH and from an iPad side-stage, providing a more streamlined and efficient workflow. The onboard UB MADI port also allows for quick multi-track recording, a feature that has been well-received.

One of the standout features of the DiGiCo S31 is its three touchscreens, which are particularly appreciated by The Assembly Theatre's audio techs. The console's intuitive workflow is easy to understand, even for those who have never seen it before, ensuring a smooth transition during set-up and operation.

The full matrix processor on the DiGiCo S31 is being used to drive the main PA system at The Assembly Theatre, providing a robust and high-quality sound experience for all performances. The DiGiCo S31 handled the production of Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Dan Wilson, best known as the front man for Semisonic, with ease, despite the seven-piece band and a live space with many moving parts.

With the DiGiCo S31, The Woman's Club can now rest assured that they have a reliable and high-quality sound system for all their performances. The DiGiCo S31 has brought new life to the theatre's sound system, ensuring that it continues to provide exceptional experiences for both performers and audience members for years to come.
