Historical Technical Centre welcomes families for a day of commemoration and exploration on their Open Memorial Day

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the Historical Technical Center (HTZ) in Halle will host a Day of Open Heritage from 10 am to 5 pm. This event, open to both children and adults, offers an opportunity for families with children aged 6 to 12 to learn about science and technology in a fun and interactive way.

Located at Turmstraße, Lutherplatz in the former transformer station, the Historical Technical Center will play host to three engaging learning modules: the SWH Discovery Station, Water Workshop, and Measurement Lab.

The SWH Discovery Station features 12 interactive activities exploring energy, waste disposal, informatics, and mobility. Here, visitors can discover why a ball hovers in an air current, how sunlight becomes electricity, and how a thermal imaging camera works. The station also provides information on proper waste separation and conscious energy use.

The Water Workshop focuses on the element of water, offering interactive experiment stations for investigating taste, hardness, and water sounds. One of the highlights is the Water Diploma, where curious researchers can participate in exciting competitions. The workshop also includes microscopy, providing a fascinating glimpse into the world of water.

The Measurement Lab offers a playful discovery of the world of measurement. Visitors can find out how high a penguin can jump or where on Earth body weight is the greatest. The lab also features experiments for guessing and measuring physical quantities like length, weight, heat, movement, light, and pressure.

Throughout the day, guests can enjoy light refreshments and musical accompaniment. Correct answers to quiz questions in the learning modules can win visitors attractive prizes. The youngest guests can enjoy a colorful painting and crafting street, as well as giant soap bubbles.

Topics to be explored include the physics behind a glass holding a playing card upside down, penguin jumps, passenger weightlessness during parabolic flights, and the formation of colors. The Historical Exhibition, a journey through the technical history of Halle, will also be open.

Admission to the event is free, making it an accessible and enjoyable day out for all. So, mark your calendars and join us for a day of learning, fun, and discovery at the Historical Technical Center in Halle.
