History of Israel: 1948 to Present Day

On Monday, October 20, from 7-9 pm, the German National Library will host a thought-provoking event titled "World(Dis)order." This discussion, in partnership with Literaturhaus Leipzig, will delve into the complexities of conflicts, wars, and the climate crisis, offering insights from experts in the field.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, recently escalated by a violent attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, will be a significant focus. The Israeli coalition government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is hinting at the possible annexation of the West Bank and the re-establishment of Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip. This move, if implemented, could undermine the idea of a Palestinian state, a position supported by the current Israeli cabinet's transfer of governing powers in parts of the West Bank to civilian Israeli control.

The event will feature Meron Mendel, Director of the Anne Frank Educational Center in Frankfurt am Main, and Omri Boehm, Philosopher and Associate Professor of Philosophy at the New School for Social Research in New York. They will discuss the possibilities and chances of a country at the border, shedding light on the ongoing Israeli government's stance and its implications for the region and the prospects for peaceful coexistence.

Admission for the event is 10 Euro, with reduced pricing at 8 Euro. Ticket reservations can be made by phone at 0341 / 30 85 10 86 or by email at [email protected].

It is important to note that Hamas continues to strive for the destruction of Israel, adding another layer of complexity to the already volatile situation. The ongoing settlement activities and aggressive rhetoric complicate prospects for peaceful coexistence, and there is no current significant initiative from the Israeli government supporting a peace process with Palestinians.

This event promises to be a valuable opportunity for those interested in understanding the intricacies of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its implications for the broader global landscape. Join us at the German National Library on October 20 for an enlightening discussion on "World(Dis)order."
