Hoffenheim Suffer Double Injury Blow as Machida and Burger Sidelined
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim have been dealt a significant blow with the news that both Koki Machida and Wouter Burger will be out of action for an indefinite period. The duo's injuries occurred during the club's 2:1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Machida, the Swiss national player Alban Hajdari's replacement at the left central defender position, suffered a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during his Bundesliga debut. The Japanese defender had integrated well into the team since joining from Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer.
Hajdari, a 22-year-old center-back acquired from FC Basel, had been a crucial part of Hoffenheim's defense, and his injury came as a disappointment to Sporting Director Andreas Schicker. Machida was substituted just before half-time due to his injury.
