Similarly, smoking on the beach has been prohibited in Bibione, Italy, and many coastal sections of Spain, including Barcelona, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands.
Cigarettes and e-cigarettes are subject to strict regulations in cities and on beaches across Spain, Italy, and France. Violations can result in fines of up to over 200 euros in Italy and up to €2,000 in Spain, with stricter penalties for offenses like public sexual acts or wild camping. For example, in Gran Canaria, fines for similar violations can reach up to 2,800 Swiss francs (approximately €2,800).
Nicotine pouches are not subject to a uniform regulation within Europe. While Norway allows their sale, they must not be visibly displayed in stores. Conversely, the sale of tobacco-free nicotine pouches is banned in France and the Netherlands.
Elsewhere in the world, the legal situation for nicotine pouches is more severe. Countries like Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Mauritius, Iran, and Brunei ban their possession and impose high fines or imprisonment for violations.
In the USA, each state determines what is allowed regarding smoking, with California being particularly strict. Florida has repealed the smoking ban on beaches, but elsewhere, smoking in a car is forbidden if children under twelve are present.
E-cigarettes are generally allowed, but users are expected to show consideration for their surroundings, especially near children or pregnant women. However, in New Zealand, e-cigarettes can be sold but not advertised, and disposable models are completely banned.
