Hornbach launches construction and gardening market in Colentina, investing over 48 million euros in a fourth location within Bucharest
HORNBACH to Open New Store in Bucharest's Colentina District
HORNBACH, a leading retailer for DIY and garden supplies, has announced the opening of its tenth store in Romania. The new store, located in the Bucharest district of Colentina, is set to open its doors on September 3, 2025.
Covering a sales area of over 18,000 square meters, the new store will offer a wide range of DIY and garden supplies, including a garden center with a sales area of over 4,700 square meters. The garden center will feature specialized departments for pet supplies and aquatics.
The new HORNBACH store in Colentina has been planned and built with a focus on minimal environmental impact. It is equipped with a powerful photovoltaic system on the roof, a ventilation system with heat recovery, and air conditioning via heat pumps, all of which significantly reduce energy consumption. LED lighting ensures low energy consumption and a long lifespan.
Radu Oniga, CEO of HORNBACH Romania, stated that the new opening expands HORNBACH's presence in the capital by covering the east of the city for the first time. The total area of the property where the new store will be located is 45,000 square meters, providing 515 customer parking spaces.
HORNBACH has invested over 300 million euros in Romania so far and operates nine stationary markets and an online shop in the country. The company is currently preparing to open a second market in Timisoara in the fall of 2025, in addition to the one that is scheduled to open in Bucharest.
The team in the Colentina store will consist of 120 specialists, and HORNBACH is relying on a range of technological solutions to streamline both internal processes and the customer shopping experience at the new store.
