In a heart-wrenching incident, a historic stand cable car in Lisbon, known as the "Elevador da Gloria", was involved in a fatal accident. The accident resulted in 16 fatalities and 21 injuries, some severe.

Initially, it was assumed that there was no German fatality in the accident. However, the German tourist, his wife, and their young child were among the victims. The family was visiting Lisbon for a holiday.

The German tourist was found severely injured in a Lisbon hospital following the accident. His wife, unfortunately, suffered severe injuries, while their son had minor injuries. The family's place of origin in Germany was not disclosed by the police spokesperson.

The Portuguese police initially believed the German to be dead. The parents of the man had to identify a corpse, which the police believed to be their son, but they denied it. A DNA test was conducted and confirmed that the corpse was not the German tourist.

The parents recognized their son in a photo of injured victims in various hospitals in Lisbon. The German tourist was later found to have survived the accident.

This was the first such accident involving one of the three stand cable cars operated in Lisbon since the 19th century. The search for the causes of the accident and the maintenance of the cable car is ongoing. Secure findings will take some time to be available.

The identities of all 16 victims have been confirmed: 5 Portuguese, 3 British, 2 Canadian, 2 South Korean, 1 each from Switzerland, Ukraine, France, and the USA. Eleven foreigners, including the German tourist, were among the dead.

The Lisbon police spokesperson, Neves, stated that there had never been such an accident with one of the stand cable cars in Lisbon before. The accident occurred on a steep street in Lisbon.

The family's city of origin in Germany could not be stated by the Lisbon police spokesperson. The German tourist was lying unconscious in the San José hospital in Lisbon.

The Portuguese authorities extend their condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The cable car, a beloved symbol of Lisbon, remains closed until further notice.
