Houthi Leader Suffers Deadly Strike in Israeli Assault

In the ongoing civil war in Yemen, which has been raging since 2014, the Houthi militia, officially known as Ansar Allah ("Supporters of God"), suffered a significant loss this week. The Israeli military targeted a facility in Sanaa, Yemen, on Thursday, resulting in the death of the Houthi's president, Ahmed al-Rahaui, and several Houthi ministers.

The Houthi, considered the strongest force in Yemen, have controlled the north of the country for nearly a decade, but they are not internationally recognized as the government of Yemen. Despite this, the Houthi government will continue its work, as announced by the Houthi Supreme Political Council.

Mohammed Ahmed Miftah has been appointed as the new acting Prime Minister of the Houthi government in Sanaa and northern Yemen. Ahmed al-Rahaui's deputy, Mohammed Ahmed, was immediately named as acting prime minister following the airstrike.

The Israeli military reported that Al-Rahaui and other high-ranking Houthi representatives were killed in the airstrike. The attack also injured other members of the Houthi government.

The Houthi have been attacking commercial ships and at times Israel itself since the start of the Gaza war nearly two years ago. The Israeli military stated that the target was a facility where "dozens" of leading members of the Houthi regime were present.

The Saba news agency, which is controlled by the Houthi, reported the appointment of Mohammed Ahmed as acting prime minister. Al-Rahaui was appointed as prime minister by the Houthi organization a year ago.

Abdel Malik al-Huthi, the Houthi's leader, founded the Shia organization about 30 years ago. The Houthi are a Zaidi Shia Muslim political and military movement that originated in northern Yemen.

The Israeli military's actions in Yemen have raised concerns about regional tensions and potential escalation. The international community is closely monitoring the situation in Yemen and the response from both the Israeli military and the Houthi government.
