Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Suffers Drone Attack, Training Center Affected
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine has been subjected to a drone attack, according to reports from TASS and the ZNPP's official Telegram channel. The incident occurred at 20:15 Moscow time on an unspecified date.
The attack targeted the training center of the ZNPP, which houses a full-scale reactor hall simulator, a crucial facility for station personnel training. Despite the attack, no fires or significant damage occurred, and the plant continues to operate as usual.
Yevgenia Yashina, the communications director of the ZNPP, made the announcement about the attack. She stated that the "G" building of the ZNPP training center, located 300 meters from the power unit, was the target of the attack. According to Yashina, no station employees were injured in the incident.
The ZNPP statement did not mention any changes in the plant's safety status due to the attack on the training center. However, Yashina indicated that she plans to show IAEA experts the aftermath of the attack, if possible. The IAEA, for its part, has so far received no information about the attack on the training center of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant facility, as stated by its Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.
The ZNPP administration's communication about the attack is based on a report by TASS. The ZNPP continues to communicate about the attack through TASS, as previously reported. The ZNPP training center remains operational despite the attack.
It is important to note that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been alleged to be responsible for the attack on the ZNPP's training center. However, no official confirmation or denial has been made regarding this claim.
As the situation unfolds, the ZNPP administration will provide further updates and information about the attack to the IAEA. The international community will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and stability of the ZNPP and the surrounding area.
