Hundreds of migrants denied entry at Bavarian bordercheckpoints
The German government has implemented a controversial policy decision, allowing border guards to deny entry to asylum seekers at the country's external borders. This rejection order, announced by Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) on May 8, 2022, has since been enforced.
Since its implementation, the number of unauthorized entry attempts at the Austrian border has surpassed those at the Bavarian-Czech border. According to recent reports, approximately 2,700 individuals have been denied entry at the Austrian border since May 8. The exact number of asylum seekers affected by the rejection order at the Bavarian-Czech border is 145, with 6 being denied entry.
The rejection of asylum seekers at the German borders is a recent development and has been a subject of much debate. The policy decision itself, as well as its potential impact on the number of asylum seekers entering Germany through its external borders, remains a topic of discussion.
It's worth noting that the rejection order allows border guards to turn away asylum seekers, but it does not provide any information about the subsequent fate of these individuals or the number of asylum seekers who may continue to increase as a result of the rejection order.
In addition to the rejection of asylum seekers, the borders in the Free State have also seen a significant number of arrests. Around 915 persons wanted on arrest warrants have been apprehended, and 279 human traffickers have been caught since May 8. These arrests underscore the complex and often challenging nature of border control.
As of the end of August, 151 asylum seekers have been denied entry into Bavaria, Germany. However, no new information about the number of asylum seekers affected by the rejection order was provided.
The rejection order for asylum seekers is a contentious issue, with opinions divided on its effectiveness and fairness. As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how this policy will impact the broader refugee crisis and Germany's relations with its neighbouring countries.
