In a significant move towards revolutionising the automotive industry, Amazon has launched its new online shopping platform for cars, Amazon Autos, and partnered with Hyundai Motor Co. in 48 major U.S. cities. The cities included are New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, San Francisco, and other metropolitan areas.

Amazon Autos aims to streamline the initial vehicle browsing and purchasing steps, offering transparent pricing to eliminate the need for negotiation during the car-buying process. This digital sales channel provides dealerships with a new avenue to connect with millions of Amazon customers.

Hyundai was one of the first automakers to partner with Amazon for its digital showroom back in 2018. Now, the partnership has evolved, allowing customers to complete the entire car-buying process online on Amazon Autos. From selecting trim, colour options, to scheduling a pickup time at a Hyundai dealer, the process is designed to be seamless and convenient.

The partnership also includes the exclusive launch of Amazon Autos for the purchase of new Hyundai vehicles. Customers can even apply the trade-in amount towards the purchase price of their new car. Once the transaction is complete, customers can drop off their old vehicle at the dealer when picking up their new Hyundai model.

In 2025, Hyundai will integrate Amazon's Alexa digital assistant in its next-generation vehicles, further enhancing the shopping experience. Another exciting development for 2025 is the addition of BMW as a partner to Amazon Autos, with the partnership planned through Hertz's cooperation. This will enable customers to buy used BMW vehicles online on Amazon Autos.

Feedback from dealers and customers is encouraged to improve the car-buying experience on Amazon Autos. Vehicle trade-in values are provided by an independent third-party, ensuring fairness and accuracy. Amazon Autos also offers financing, extended warranty plans, and trade-in options to customers.

Unlike Tesla, which has faced conflicts involving state dealer franchise laws in some states, Amazon Autos operates without such issues. This partnership is a significant step forward in Amazon's mission to make car-buying as easy as buying a book or a pair of shoes online.
