Iconic Land Rover of the late Steve Irwin set for auction

In an exciting turn of events, Collecting Cars is currently offering a unique piece of automotive history - Steve Irwin's 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser HJ47 Troop Carrier. This classic vehicle, adorned with green-coloured "The Crocodile Hunter" lettering in the authentic typeface, was once a working vehicle at Queensland's Australia Zoo.

The Land Cruiser, with its distinctive aluminium bull bar, is understood to date from its time at Australia Zoo. It features a HJ47 Troop Carrier body with ute chassis components, complete with a rear crossmember from a ute model and extra cab mount supports.

The vehicle has traveled an impressive 415,426km from new, having undergone extensive mechanical refurbishment, an electrical system overhaul, and other improvements during its current 12-year ownership. The seller of the Land Cruiser acquired it directly from Australia Zoo in 2013, and it was later restored by its current owner, a local named John Robertson, who purchased it in 2013.

The Land Cruiser comes with a history booklet and a letter from Steve's son, Robert Irwin, authenticating its provenance. Additionally, it includes a letter of authentication from Robert Irwin himself.

This iconic vehicle is powered by a 4.9-litre Cleveland Ford V8 engine and boasts unique chassis and body details. The bidding for this historical piece is currently active and closes on Monday, 1 September 2025.

The Land Cruiser was not just a vehicle; it was a part of Steve Irwin's mission to conserve wildlife and educate the public. It spent its days at Australia Zoo, a 700-acre facility that continues Irwin's stated mission of conservation through education.

For those interested in owning a piece of Australian pop culture history, this is an opportunity not to be missed. The Land Cruiser is a classic Toyota Land Cruiser in pristine condition, a testament to the durability and reliability of these vehicles. Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history. The bidding is open now!
