In the heart of Porto de Mós, Mariana Leitao, a prominent figure in the Liberal Initiative (IL), addressed the launch of candidates for the upcoming municipal elections. Leitao expressed her objective to elect as many people as possible in municipalities where the Liberal Initiative is running, with the aim of improving the quality of life for residents.

Leitao emphasized the importance of a more agile and efficient state that does not incur unnecessary expenditure. She suggested that the government should prioritize stimulating the market, particularly construction, by creating favorable conditions, lowering taxes, reducing bureaucracy, and accelerating licensing.

Leitao also advocated for liberalizing the rental market to encourage landlords to rent their properties, addressing the long-standing issue of frozen rents. However, she expressed a desire to wait and see the government's ambition, particularly in terms of tax cuts and state reform before fully committing to the Liberal Initiative's implementation throughout the national territory, which is proposed for the 2025 elections.

In a surprising turn of events, Leitao questioned Prime Minister Luís Montenegro about the inclusion of 60,000 houses from the PRR in the total of 133,000 houses he mentioned. The Prime Minister announced an additional 1.3 billion euros credit line for affordable housing, to be signed with the European Investment Bank next Thursday, with the investment for the 133,000 houses expected to be partially funded by the European Investment Bank and the Development Bank.

However, Leitao expressed uncertainty about the origin of the investment for the 133,000 houses, specifically whether it is municipal or state central debt. The exact amount of debt to be contracted by municipalities is unclear, and the exact number of planned housing units to be financed by the state and the European Investment Bank, as well as whether these figures should be added together, is not provided.

Leitao's comments suggest a focus on solving the real problems of people at the municipal level. She believes that living in a municipality managed in a transparent and efficient way is crucial. As the municipal elections approach, Leitao's advocacy for liberal policies and efficient governance is expected to resonate with voters, shaping the political landscape of Porto de Mós and potentially beyond.
