In the heart of Germany, the Left Party in Dresden has issued an urgent call to action for the city's mayor to ensure the operational safety of the Dresden Transport Authority (DVT). The crux of the matter lies in the procurement of electric buses, a move that is crucial for replacing outdated diesel buses and securing funding that is at risk of expiring.

The funding for the procurement of 45 electric buses has already been approved by the Free State of Saxony. However, the city's contribution is necessary to avoid the loss of this funding and the potential expiration of the funding period. The city's co-financing is crucial for the success of the project.

Mayor Stephan Kühn is responsible for steering the new direction regarding the vehicle fleet of the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVT). The acquisition of these electric buses would not only reduce carbon emissions but also alleviate the significant maintenance costs associated with the existing vehicle fleet.

Annual maintenance costs for the DVT's vehicle fleet amount to approximately half a million euros. With the maintenance costs for the existing fleet expected to increase significantly if the procurement of electric buses does not take place, the financial burden could become unsustainable.

The Left Party believes that not replacing vehicles could lead to major breakdowns. They have submitted an urgent application to prevent the loss of funding for electric bus procurement. The party has also warned of imminent major breakdowns in the vehicle fleet if action is not taken promptly.

The DVT's vehicle fleet is currently affected by Mayor Hilbert's course. The Left Party urges the mayor to act quickly to ensure the operational safety of the DVT, safeguard the funding for electric bus procurement, and prevent potential major breakdowns in the vehicle fleet.
