Impending Thunderstorm Alert in Bavaria: Affected Regions Include These Counties Due to Severe Storm Conditions
Heavy Thunderstorm Warnings Across Bavaria
The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a series of warnings for heavy thunderstorms across Bavaria, affecting several districts in both the north and south of the state.
In the north, a preliminary warning for heavy thunderstorms has been issued for the districts of Haßberge, Bamberg, Rhön-Grabfeld, Coburg, Lichtenfels, and Kronach. This warning is in effect from 16:00 on Thursday until Friday morning at 02:00. The DWD advises avoiding outdoor activities and securing loose objects in these areas.
Excluded in the south are the districts of Berchtesgadener Land and Altoetting. However, the districts and cities south of the line including Donau-Ries, Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, Roth, Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Regensburg, Straubing-Bogen, and Straubing are affected.
The DWD classifies this warning as corresponding to the warning level red, indicating a significant risk of severe weather conditions. Driving behavior should be adapted due to the potential for storm gusts, rain, and small hail in the warned areas.
In several districts in the southwestern part of Bavaria, the DWD has also issued a warning for heavy thunderstorms. The preliminary warning affects almost half of the Free State.
The DWD predicts thunderstorms with heavy rain and hurricane-force gusts. On Friday, the unsettled weather continues with showers and thunderstorms expected to spread again.
In a particularly worrying development, the DWD has issued a red alert for "heavy thunderstorm with heavy rain and hail" for Munich and surrounding areas, which is in effect until 22:00. The districts in Bavaria affected by severe thunderstorms on Friday morning and still under a severe thunderstorm pre-warning include Fürth (City), Forchheim, Lichtenfels, Dillingen an der Donau, Munich (City), Würzburg (City), Schweinfurt (District), Ebersberg, Eichstätt, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Dachau, Berchtesgadener Land, Altötting, Rosenheim (City), Erlangen-Höchstadt, Erding, Roth, Freising, Haßberge, Fürstenfeldbruck, Kempten (Allgäu), Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Ostallgäu, Landsberg am Lech, Bayreuth (District), Miesbach, Kronach, Mühldorf am Inn, Ansbach (City), Munich (District), Schwabach, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, Nürnberger Land, and Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm.
In the east, Passau, Deggendorf, Freyung-Grafenau, and Regen remain unaffected. A warning for "heavy thunderstorm" remains in effect until 23:00 for a large part of Bavaria. In the south, there's a risk of hailstorms.
The DWD has expanded its warnings for "heavy thunderstorm" to parts of North Bavaria, urging residents to stay vigilant and prepared for potential severe weather conditions.
