In 1983, the writer behind Psycho critically analyzed WarGames
In 1983, Robert Bloch, the prolific writer known for his work in horror, crime, and various genres, penned a notable review for the high-tech thriller WarGames. Published in Starlog magazine, his review offered a unique perspective on this 1980s classic.
Bloch compared WarGames to Stanley Kubrick's Dr Strangelove, suggesting that while the latter was a black comedy, the former aimed for believability. He argued that there is no love but self-love in the film, and that David and Jennifer are applauded for accepting it.
Bloch placed WarGames in the context of post-WWII teen movies and suggested that it is a product of the 1980s era of hyper-capitalism and the pursuit of self-interest. He contrasted the film with Wall Street's 'Greed is good' line and the bloody satire of RoboCop.
