In a dominating display in the line of scrimmage, Tennessee prevails against Syracuse in their opening game of the season: Game summary, account, and images provided.

The Syracuse Orange and the No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers are locked in a battle at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with the score currently standing at Tennessee 24, Syracuse 7 with 11:14 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The game, which started at noon on Saturday and is being broadcast on ABC, began with Tennessee scoring 17 unanswered points. The Volunteers regained momentum with a 73-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Staley, making the score 24-7 in their favour.

Syracuse responded with a scoring drive, with Yasin Willis taking a speed option two yards into the endzone. The Orange reached plus territory for the first time in the game during this drive, but two costly turnovers have prevented their offense from having its best game possible.

Tennessee has targeted freshman cornerback Demetres Samuel Jr. in the game, and the Orange defense looks similar to last year's squad, allowing big plays and explosive runs. The Volunteers are winning the time-of-possession battle.

Syracuse's offensive line looked outmatched at times but had its good moments. Notre Dame transfer Steve Angeli is leading the Syracuse University football team for the 2025 season opener against the Tennessee Volunteers, with Keith Bulluck serving as the honorary captain for Syracuse in this game.

The Orange's next big game is at Clemson in its ACC opener on September 20. Syracuse has to play four more teams ranked higher than Tennessee in the preseason AP poll. Syracuse's defense has allowed four sacks for two fumbles in the first half, and the offense ran one more play before halftime, resulting in a strip sack for a loss of 10 yards.

Justus Ross-Simmons had a 23-yard screen and a 22-yard catch during the third quarter, and Darrell Gill Jr. had a 26-yard catch during the fourth quarter. Tennessee scored a touchdown on a drive that started on Syracuse's 12-yard line, and Syracuse started a drive at Tennessee's 49-yard line after pinning Tennessee at the two-yard line.

The game started with a bang, with Tennessee scoring 17 unanswered points to begin the game. The Orange will need to find a way to claw their way back if they hope to secure a victory in this highly anticipated matchup.
