American Welding & Gas Expands Its Reach with Acquisitions in Florida and Utah
American Welding & Gas (AWG), a North Carolina-based gas producer and distributor, has made two strategic acquisitions in July 2021, marking its entry into the states of Florida and Utah.
The first acquisition involved the purchase of First Call Propane, a propane company based in Utah. This move expands AWG's reach into the state, marking it as the second acquisition for AWG in a month. The terms of the acquisition, including the purchase price, were not disclosed.
First Call Propane's acquisition will allow AWG to offer propane services in addition to its welding equipment and supplies offerings. This diversification beyond gas production and distribution is a strategic move for AWG, strengthening its gases, welding products, and related services offerings in the Southeast region of the US.
In Florida, AWG acquired Suncoast Welding Supplies, a Florida-based welding equipment and supplies business originally founded by a family. James "Jim" Johnson, the son of the original founders, currently leads Suncoast Welding Supplies. AWG's president or general director who purchased Suncoast Welding Supplies in Florida is not publicly disclosed.
Justin McDowell, Senior Vice-President of the Southeast at AWG, expressed confidence in carrying forward the legacy built by the Johnson family. McDowell is excited about the opportunities this acquisition presents for both customers and team members.
These acquisitions have expanded AWG's reach to two new states (Florida and Utah), but the company has not specified whether this is the first or the last for AWG. The company continues to explore opportunities for growth and expansion.
