In defiance of Paris's ire, Deschamps persists with the lead against Iceland
Following a closed-door session on Monday evening, Didier Deschamps, the manager of the French National Team, held a press conference to discuss the injuries of Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué. Despite the setbacks, Deschamps defended the handling of the injuries, stating that it was done professionally and with consideration for the players' feelings.
In the upcoming match against Iceland, Bradley Barcola, who played sixty-six minutes in the previous game, will be under scrutiny. However, it's not clear which player will start in the lineup after playing only 66 minutes against Ukraine on Friday. Lucas Hernandez was also far from starting, and Lucas Chevalier was not initially intended to start in place of Mike Maignan.
Meanwhile, Philippe Diallo, the president of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), wrote a letter to Nasser al-Khelaifi, the PSG president, in an attempt to appease the growing crisis between the two parties. The letter did not explicitly mention the use of any specific PSG winger in the match against Iceland, nor did it address the anger from PSG against the medical staff of the Blues. Instead, Diallo promoted good collaboration between the French team and the clubs.
The injuries of Dembélé and Doué have caused anger from PSG, and the effectiveness of Diallo's letter in ending the crisis is uncertain. However, Deschamps made it clear that he makes the decisions and takes into account the players' feelings, including whether or not to use the PSG winger in the current context.
The international match calendar has also come under question due to the number of games, with Diallo suggesting a reconsideration of the schedule. Despite the challenges, the French National Team is determined to face Iceland with the best possible lineup, aiming for a strong performance in the upcoming match.
