In India, general health insurance policies often do not cover In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedures. However, there are some insurance companies that offer policies specifically designed to cover fertility treatments, including IVF.

One such company is One Health by Magma HDI Insurance. Their support plan, a basic cover, starts at Rs 2 lakhs, with additional covers bringing the cost up to a maximum of Rs 5 lakhs. The company's infertility treatment insurance coverage includes pre and post-hospitalization expenses, IVF treatment, free annual health checkups, and more.

Another option is the BMB Nirbhaya cover, a general health insurance policy launched jointly by Bhartiya Mahila Bank. This scheme provides IVF cover for women of different financial statuses. With the BMB Nirbhaya scheme, women can avail of a cashless facility and maternity coverage for up to the first two children. The premium for the insurance coverage of Rs 1 lakh starts at Rs 1,745 for women who are 22 years old and above.

The cost of an IVF procedure in India varies significantly, ranging from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakh. The cost is also based on factors such as the hospital, IVF specialists, and health condition. For most treatments, there is an initial waiting period of up to 30 days applicable to patients.

It's important to note that fertility treatments, including IVF, are generally not widely covered by health insurance companies in India. While some private insurers may offer limited coverage options, there is no comprehensive list naming specific Indian insurers that include IVF as a standard health insurance benefit. IVF clinics continue providing services, but health insurance policies often exclude or only partially cover assisted reproductive technologies in India.

The IVF Suraksha Scheme by Craft Hospital and Research Center is another option. This scheme uses state-of-the-art technologies for treatment. Couples undergoing treatments under the IVF Suraksha Scheme must undergo a physical fitness test prior to availing their schemes. The cost for a single IVF-ICSI under the IVF Suraksha Scheme starts at Rs 1.75 lakhs, but for subsequent treatments, the cost can go up to Rs 3.5 lakhs. The scheme does not cover the costs involved in the event of a miscarriage, hormone injections, medication payments, tubal pregnancy, and the fees required for the registration, consultation, and lab tests.

The success rate for treatments under the IVF Suraksha Scheme is around 75 per cent. The BMB Nirbhaya cover's sum insured is between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. The cost of the BMB Nirbhaya cover's insurance coverage of Rs 1 lakh starts at Rs 1,745 for women who are 22 years old and above.

In conclusion, while general health insurance policies in India do not typically cover IVF procedures, there are options available for those seeking coverage. It's essential to research and compare policies to find the one that best fits your needs and budget.
