11th NYCSchoolsTech Summit Returns with a Focus on Advancing Digital Learning

On Monday, March 11, 2023, the 11th NYCSchoolsTech Summit took place at Long Island University in Brooklyn, marking a return to in-person professional learning. Over 600 educators from across New York City attended the event, which was dedicated to advancing digital learning, tools, and opportunities.

NYC Public Schools Chancellor David C. Banks welcomed attendees, urging them to bring what they learned back to their schools. The day's focus was on the latest educational technologies and strategies, with dynamic presentations on various topics such as taking paperless attendance, using Canva to elevate teaching and learning, and creating a safe and welcoming digital learning environment.

Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed a vendor meet-and-greet featuring over 60 creators of edtech solutions, products, and platforms. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Canva, Adobe, LEGO Education, Dell, Epson, and Promethean were present, showcasing their latest offerings.

The 11th NYCSchoolsTech Summit recognized 12 Summit Award winners for their contributions to education in New York City. Among the recipients were Staci Balice, Library/Media Teacher & SPOC at Space Shuttle Columbia P.S. 58; Erin Dietz, Technology Coordinator & SPOC at P.S. 103 - The Hector Fontanez School; Herson Pleitez, Technology Teacher & SPOC at P.S. 109 Sedgewick; Sparkle Peters, Ed Tech Coordinator at Virtual Innovators Academy; Deborah Paradise, Teacher, Tech Coordinator & SPOC at Leadership and Public Service High School; Matthew Gorin, a Model Teacher at P.S. K721 - Brooklyn Occupational Training Center; Thea Williams, a Grade 4 Teacher at Brooklyn Arbor Elementary; Steven Mudrick, Director of CTE Video Production & SPOC at The Theatre Arts Production Company School; Lisa Choi, Technology Teacher, Stars Programmer, Webmaster & SPOC at P.S. 7 Queens; and Ellen Perlow Phillips, Technology Teacher at The Grand Central Parkway School.

In addition, Rebecca Ramnauth, a graduate of NYC schools and LIU, gave a keynote speech about her work at the Yale Social Robotics Lab, where they are building robots to help students with autism learn human connections.
