In pursuit, an unlicensed Polish motorist met with a fatal accident

On Friday, September 2nd, 2025, a dramatic high-speed police chase took place in the District of Herzogtum Lauenburg, Germany. The incident began on August 29th, 2025, near Geesthacht/Muessan, and culminated in the arrest of a 21-year-old man from Reinbek.

According to a joint press release issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office Lübeck and the Police Directorate Ratzeburg, the chase started when an off-duty police officer recognised the suspect, a German citizen driving without a valid driver's license, in a gray Audi on the federal road 5 towards Lauenburg.

The man fled from the police, driving with significantly exceeded speed on federal road 5, federal road 209, and further towards Luetau/Schwarzenbek. During the chase, the Audi driver recklessly and improperly overtook several road users, endangering bystanders, but luckily no third parties were harmed.

Several patrol cars were involved in the chase, and a "Stop-Stick" was placed on the road shortly before the Louisenhof/Muessan junction. The suspect drove over the "Stop-Stick" with his Audi, causing the tires to lose air.

During a right turn, the fugitive veered off the road to the left and crashed into the ditch. The suspect sustained several injuries during his foot chase, which required hospital treatment. Indications of possible intoxicant use were found before the journey.

The suspect resisted physically during his arrest, and the officers used pepper spray during the arrest. The man now faces charges for various traffic offenses, resisting, and assaulting law enforcement officers.

Two police officers also sustained minor injuries during the incident. The car was seized on order of the Public Prosecutor's Office Lübeck. A blood sample was ordered to be taken from the suspect.

The police are seeking witnesses to the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Geesthacht police station at 04152/80030 or [email protected] or the Schwarzenbek police station at 04151/88940 or [email protected].

For inquiries about this press release, contact the press office of the Police Directorate Ratzeburg at 04541/809-2012 or [email protected]. The person behind the Audi who fled near Müssen on August 29, 2025, and was arrested by the police was the 21-year-old man from Reinbek, who was already known to the police.
