In South Austin, a police officer, caught in a traffic collision, allegedly fired upon and mortally wounded a suspected car burglar, as per authorities' accounts.
In an early morning incident on Saturday, a Chicago police officer fatally shot a burglary suspect on the city's West Side. The incident occurred near Chicago and Waller avenues around 3:45 a.m.
Responding officers encountered a dark-colored sedan, which had allegedly been involved in a burglary in the 5500-block of West Thomas Street. The suspects fled in the sedan southbound on North Waller Avenue.
The sedan is reported to have hit two marked CPD vehicles, pinning an officer who then fired shots, striking one of the suspects. The injured suspect was transported to Stroger Hospital and later pronounced dead. No information about the identity of the deceased suspect was released immediately.
A second suspect was taken into custody and later transported to a local hospital for unknown injuries. No details about the condition of the second suspect were provided. The third suspect dropped a gun while fleeing the scene, but no new information about the status of the third suspect was provided.
Two CPD officers were transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The officers involved in the incident are immigration officers from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but their names have not been disclosed.
