In the year 2025, Tim Clarke's dominance in indoor rowing was undeniable during the sweltering summer months

Tim Clarke, a 65-year-old former rugby player, is set to participate in the British Rowing Indoor Championships for the third year in a row. The event, which includes the Super Sprint Sunday, will be held at FitFest in Birmingham for the third year running.

Clarke, who made his debut for Bedford Blues on Boxing Day 1988 and played two seasons in the top division of English Rugby, was first introduced to indoor rowing in 2005. He raced at the British Championships with his daughter and has since become a formidable competitor.

In 2021, Clarke was crowned European Champion in indoor rowing and took 2nd place at the British and World Championships. This summer, he shattered three indoor rowing world records in the 65-69 category, knocking more than a second off the 500m record and beating the previous best for one minute by over 10 meters.

For the upcoming championships, Clarke intends to compete in the 500m event. He plans to follow a similar training regimen as he did before breaking his records, having taken a break from training to celebrate his achievements. To help him break more records, Clarke has employed a coach named James Hall.

Clarke believes he has a good chance at winning the 500m event for his age group in the British Rowing Indoor Championships, unless another competitor emerges. However, he has expressed that he may not enjoy winning in the 60 plus age group during Super Sprint Sunday.

In addition to his rowing achievements, Clarke will participate in a cycling trip with ex-rugby players from Geneva to Nice after his training break.

The British Rowing Indoor Championships will also see the participation of Alan Bell, the oldest participant at 95, and Val Coleman. Clarke, Bell, and Coleman are testament to the enduring spirit of competition and the pursuit of personal bests, regardless of age.
