The German construction industry has reported a mixed performance for June 2025, with some sectors experiencing growth while others saw a slight downturn.

Despite a 2.6% decrease in orders adjusted for price increases compared to May, the industry managed to record a real increase of 7.3% in orders for the month. This increase was primarily driven by a 9.4% increase in orders for the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2024.

Orders for high-rise construction saw a 5.6% increase in the first half of the year, while civil engineering experienced an impressive 8.7% increase. However, civil engineering companies reported fewer new orders in June compared to the previous month, and the real order value for civil engineering in June was lower than the previous month, albeit higher than the same month last year.

Turnover in the construction industry increased nominally by 4.6% in the first half of the year, but after adjusting for price increases, the growth was more modest at 2.2%. Turnover in the construction industry was 0.5% lower than in May after adjustment for price increases. High-rise construction orders remained stable in June compared to the previous month, but turnover in civil engineering in June was lower than the previous month.

Orders for other sectors in the construction industry (besides civil engineering and high-rise construction) may have increased in June compared to the previous month, as no specific mention is made of a decrease in these sectors. The real order value in June for these sectors was not provided.

Notable news from the construction industry comes from PORR AG, which received the most construction orders in Germany during the first half of 2025. PORR AG reported an order intake increase of 72.9% to EUR 730 million. This significant increase was due to several major projects in industrial construction and infrastructure, such as the Gemeinschaftsschule Insel Gartenfeld and the 2nd S-Bahn Stammstrecke in Munich.

In summary, while the German construction industry experienced a slight downturn in June, it has shown positive growth for the first half of the year, with orders increasing by 9.4% compared to the same period last year. The industry continues to be a crucial part of the German economy, with major projects contributing to its growth.
